Hi, I’m Fiona, Fi, Mum, Rose Gold Warrior.Â
I am a 50 something (who remembers detail) wife and mum of a teenage boy with autism and ADHD
Before he came into my life, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Don’t ask me what stage. I have no idea. I’m not sure I cared at the time. I was 34 and just did what my friends told me to. They knew best. I just went round in a daze.Â
I had chemo followed by an operation followed by radiotherapy. At the time I was single and convinced life was over. Who would want me now?Â
In many ways it was, but in a good way. Having cancer changed me, I like to think for the better. How could it not?Â
It spurred me on, pushed me to do things I had made excuses for. Offered me a second chance and I took it.
I went on to finish my law exams and qualify as a Graduate Legal Executive, got married and became a mum, qualified as a Reiki Master, learned about Oracle Cards and became rather obsessed with anything rose gold and Wonder Woman. Not actually sure what came first.Â
With my tribe and BFFs by my side, a rollercoaster of life has been navigated, with some respite being provided by my love of wine and gin (not necessarily in the same glass) and the love of my cats.   Some may argue my fur babies are simply seeking warmth but I like to think its because they cannot bear to be away from me. I may be mistaken.Â
I was very much enjoying life. There were many struggles raising a child with ASD as I’m sure you can imagine, and in my quest to seek help and support, I came across a local Facebook group of mums in similar circumstances. The die was cast and our tribe created. Facebook done good.
Then in January 2019 at my annual mammogram and check-up, another cancer was found. Different breast, different type, different scenario and different treatment – a different story altogether.
And a blog. This blog.Â
This is my story. It is about this diagnosis, my first diagnosis, mental health, gin and anything in between. Sometimes funny, sometimes dark. Sometimes helpful, sometimes not. Just like me really…
I hope you find it worth a read and and thank you for joining me on this journey.
